Asterorhombus [Asterorhombus]
Description
Asterorhombus includes species of lefteye flounders distinguished by star-shaped patterns on their skin, from which the genus derives its name. These demersal fish are found in the Indo-Pacific, especially around coral reefs and sandy areas. They have a unique adaptation of lying on the seafloor with both eyes up, allowing them to keep a lookout for predators and prey. Their diet consists mainly of small fish and crustaceans.
