Ice Cream Cone Worms [Pectinariidae]
Description
Pectinariidae, known commonly as ice cream cone worms, are a family of polychaete worms characterized by their unique tube homes that resemble ice cream cones. These tubes, constructed from sand grains and shell fragments, protect their soft-bodied occupants. The worms possess a crown of golden bristles around their head, used for locomotion and feeding. Pectinariidae are found in a variety of marine environments, from shallow waters to the deep sea, where they feed on microorganisms and detritus.
