Description

Sandy Bay provides a gentle introduction to Lake Baikal's underwater world, perfect for beginners and macro photographers. Its shallow, sandy bottom is alive with small invertebrates and fish, and keep an eye out for the charismatic nerpa, the world's only freshwater seal, often seen playing in these waters.

Apr Ice begins to break up, early season diving with cold temperatures.

May Water temperatures slowly rising, good visibility as ice recedes.
Jun Warmer water, increasing plankton, potential for seeing endemic species.
Jul Peak season for clear water and comfortable temperatures. Excellent for exploring unique Baikal fauna.
Aug Continued excellent conditions, abundant marine life.
Sep Water begins to cool, but visibility remains good. Autumn colors on land can be spectacular.
Oct Temperatures dropping significantly, but still diveable with appropriate gear. Less plankton.
Nov Water is very cold, ice formation begins. Limited diving opportunities.
Dec Ice covers most of the lake, very challenging ice diving conditions.
